Coaches Jeff and Melissa Wagner have been married since 1998 and are both lifelong runners. Their children, Clio ('18) and Elias ('23) are Santa Clara alumni. After success in high school (Oxnard) and college (Ventura) cross country and track, both coaches continued racing from 5k to marathon distances into adulthood. After their children began running youth cross country with VC Express and track with Oxnard Stars, they accepted coaching roles in both organizations. While Coach Jeff focused on sprinting and field events, Coach Melissa remained dedicated to her main passion, distance running. When their children moved on to SCHS, they became more involved there and finally took over both programs in 2020.
