Jeff Wagner - Motivational Speaker

Post date: Feb 28, 2010 4:58:48 AM

No I never lived in a van down by the river like my favorite motivational speaker Matt Foley (as played by Chris Farley), but I do consider myself a motivational guy. Would you believe when I went back to school, I avoided taking speech class? Did I fear public speaking? I don't know, but I knew I wanted to get through college as quickly as possible. Cal State schools required one speech class, while the UC system substituted that with a foreign language. Since I had college credits for taking Spanish in high school, my focus leaned toward UC...namely UC Santa Barbara.

I'm very glad I took that route & extremely proud to have graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara (every now & then I like to see it written out), but I do feel I missed out a little on a valuable resource. Almost ten years have passed since I went back to school, so how could I have known that one of my goals was going to be public speaking? I may have to look into taking a night class on the subject to fine tune my skills, but I'm sure I can learn & practice on my own. Through the web & various books in my library, I've learned quite a few tips & will regularly rehearse until I know I can deliver consistently.

I strongly believe in the "giver's gain" mentality & smile often so the world will smile back at me. My knowledge has been piling up like crazy lately. Enough for me to consider writing a book or two...stay tuned for that. Now I want to share. There have to be groups out there looking for speakers. If everyone is so afraid of public speaking, that means the ratio for speakers has to be pretty good. Jerry Seinfeld said it best that people at a funeral would rather be in the coffin than giving the eulogy!

I know what you're thinking, "Who the heck are you, Jeff? Why should I listen to you?" I'm going to start by giving my presentations for free. At first I'm going to work with the chambers of commerce to coordinate events then proceed on my own from there. A key reason to invite me to your event: I don't sell anything that I talk about. I'm not a banker, a mortgage or stock broker, a real estate or insurance agent. I'm just a tax preparer & a marketer. I come from generations of retail clerks. Know that the information I'm giving is from my own research & from the heart. Once I've gained experience, I know others will follow. Maybe I'll even charge someday! You'll see what I'm talking about.

I included the following motivational & informative topics on my home page:

  • Avoid mistakes people make trying to build wealth

  • How to minimize tax burden without going into debt

  • How to get anything cheap or free

  • Shameless self promotion - Marketing on the web

  • Using Facebook for your business without spamming

  • Guerrilla marketing in the information age

  • Custom topics also available - Let me know!
